Winter Break - Long Enough?

Postby bulldog13 » Sun Feb 21, 2010 9:33 am

With hindsight, would it have been better for the original 3 month winter break (Dec - Mar) to have been adopted rather than restarting fixtures early Feb?

Waking up this morning, snow has caused, I guess, mass cancellations of fixtures.

We have had to cancel most of our training due to frost/icy pitches and the 2 games we have played have not been on good quality pitches played on bogs and freezing temperatures.
Not good for retention of players or developing core skills I say.

Maybe lesson learned for future seasons is the extended break?

It's not the same for every club though! We have played the last 2 games on firm pitches and trained outside on Sat mornings so we have a good couple of weeks of rugby that we would have missed out on if the break was extended. It's clearly just a case of get games in when you can at the moment I think!

I agree with Brad, our team also had a very good 2 weeks of rugby prior to this weekend. The fixture that was called off can still be played in the 4 week 'open window' period in June if you want to? just like it was said at one of the previous NWC meetings. Win win situation as it is now IMO.
